LGA’s 2021 Externship program was organized a little differently this year. Much like other recent events, it was held virtually. We split it up into two half day events in which forty-five freshman and sophomore college students attended via Zoom. The LGA Externship allows undecided students a preview into the field of accounting. In our 2021 Externship we shared an overview of tax vs. audit and gave the students a taste of public and private accounting. We had two guest speakers, Amy Pitter, the President and CEO of the Massachusetts Society of CPA’s, and Sherri Heller from MassPay. Sherri discussed respect in the workplace and led some fun and interactive games. Amy presented on changes in the accounting profession and shared some examples of different careers paths for accountants.

 

Externship w Slide Photo In addition to the guest speakers, externship participants heard from LGA professionals as well, including a talk led by Managing Partner John Geraci. A member of each service line gave a Day In the Life providing insight into what it’s really like working at our firm. The students were also able to take part in a Q&A session with a panel of first year team members from LGA. Throughout the week, students learned about LGA’s culture and what makes it a great place to learn and work; like the LGA committees, celebrations, and benefits. The externship culminated with a career workshop. Not only is the externship experience meaningful to the students who participate, but it’s a pleasure for us to spend time with the next generation of accounting professionals.
